Skid control all weather driving skills driving in snow ice rain

Car Control's Driving Courses

“In 2005 over 64,000 accidents resulting in personal injury involved a skid.”
Losing control of your car on icy or wet roads is a frightening experience.  Most people tend to
panic and usually crash their car.   The Skid Control Course is designed to help you recognise the
signs of a car about to loose grip and develop instinctive corrective actions.  We use BMW cars
attached to hydraulic cradles which the instructor can alter to simulate front wheel, rear wheel
and four wheel skid situations.
The course begins with a short briefing during which your instructor explains some of the
technicalities relating to skid control.  After an exhilarating demonstration drive in a skidding
car, it’s your turn in the driving seat with the instructor alongside to teach potentially life-saving
car control skills.  The instructor will also cover techniques to avoid under steer, over steer and
compare ABS and non-ABS braking techniques. The course culminates in a timed slalom event
that awards trophies to drivers who can best control a skidding car.  All participants receive
a certificate.
We find that this course is particularly beneficial for young and newly qualified drivers, as it gives
them the opportunity to loose control and experience the consequences in a safe environment.
This course is available as a gift voucher and makes a great idea for a Christmas or birthday
present.  Please call telephone number to purchase (we accept debit and credit payments).

We offer three levels of Car Control Courses:

Level 1 Skid Experience Course

Introductory session with the emphasis on having fun

Level 2 Skid Avoidance Course

Advanced skid control teaching the skills necessary to regain control of a skidding car

Level 3 All Weather Essential Skills Driving Course

Our weather often presents difficult driving challenges - from ice and snow to hail and aquaplaning in the wet.  Losing control of your car in such conditions is a frightening experience; most people tend to panic and risk crashing. In addition to skid avoidance we'll also teach you how to use your cars ABS system (be honest - do you know what this does??)  ABS stands for Anti-lock Braking System - this is designed to stop your brakes locking up when you brake hard.  We'll show you some techniques to get the most out of this safety feature.

The Swedish Skid Control Car System

Rather than driving on an oil and water skid pan, we use cars which sit in fully adjustable electronic hydraulic cradles, which enable the instructor to simulate all types of skid scenarios - front wheel, rear wheel and four wheel - so you will be able to practise the relevant skills that will assist you in your own car.  Why Swedish?  In Sweden Skid Avoidance Courses are a compulsory part of the driving test, so they have designed this system.

The All weather Essential Skills Course also teaches you how to use your cars ABS braking system in conjunction with steering techniques to improve car control.

All our course are available as gift vouchers and they make a unique and thoughtful gift for birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, Mother's or Father's Day.

The usual format of the course is based on 3 people sharing, however, 1:1 tuition is available at £179 for 1 hr - 45 min personal driving time.
